If you start/suspend&resume the app it should ask you to update – please let it.
Next cycle 1205 is May 3rd. Please look up any other future chart release dates here.
Enjoy.
If you have any questions or comments, please see Contact above.
If you’re wondering, yes, for you who have the latest iPad you will enjoy even crisper charts once the next version is out! The A/FD and approach plates already show correctly on a retina display device.
It came to my attention that the ROM (VOR) and KC80 airports have very little data on the Los Angeles sectional chart. The aviation data exist on the San Francisco sectional, but the way SkyCharts ‘stitch’ the charts, LA now wins.
I then tried the opposite, and ROM looks better, but then Porterville loose information.
Please comment on which way you prefer.
Of course, the best solution would be for FAA to add the data on the LA chart as well, please email them at 9-AMC-Aerochart@faa.gov
This is what the charts look like now:
And this is what having San Francisco ‘win’ looks like:
As usual FAA/Aeronav didn’t test all contents. One file has still not been updated, if you use the STEWY ONE (RNAV) at KACK please wait to update until the file has been updated (who knows how long this will take though). For now you get the 1201 version, not the 1202.
For future chart releases, check the dates here.
The release now contains the AREA chart for Washington. It was previously missing. If you notice a chart missing that you think should be there please let me know.
Download payloads now also have more average size. In previous cycles the last file could be a lot larger. Having a more even size should help especially on DSL or 3G/Edge networks.
Please also check the important post about Alaska charts here.
Update (2/12/12): All files have now been updated. If you need the updated version of 00659STEWY.PDF, please un-select, then re-select the US_NE region and let the app download it again.
SkyCharts normally use the NWS metars, but if you have an internet connected AWOS that’s not part of the NWS collection, please let me know and I can try adding the data.
A list of the SuperAWOS data is here.
BIG CHANGES IN ALASKA EFFECTIVE ON THE FEBRUARY 9, 2012 CHARTING CYCLE
In November and December we put this message in the Chart Agent e-News Letter as an extra message and reminder of the major chart changes that impact Alaska due to the movement of the Anchorage VOR. Please help us get the word out to aviators on the chart changes… Safety first!
Effective on 2-9-2012, the Anchorage (ANC) VOR/DME will be shut down. The Anchorage (TED) VOR/DME will be in use. The VOR was relocated roughly 5 miles onto the Anchorage International Airport property. Therefore, it is vital to have all of the new charts in the Anchorage region to ensure the most current fix locations, procedures, and frequencies are used. This includes TPP, IFR Hi’s and Low’s, and Sectionals.
Please note: the Supplement Alaska will also have all new Anchorage VFR flow patterns effective for the February 9th edition. Be sure to check it out and help us spread the word!
Now with more data: The descriptions for the VFR,IFR and TPP (or IAP) charts are now also included.
All of these are really big though. The app will try to load them if you haven’t cached them, make sure you have a fast internet. An upcoming app update will check for these large files (like for the NOTAM).
Future chart releases can be found here.
Enjoy.
FAA never released SC_HOTSPOT.PDF in time, I’ll update the release data once it becomes available.
If you fly from KSEA you now also have this included.
Enjoy. If you have any problems please let me know.
Update 10am dec 15: SC_HOTSPOT.PDF is now included. If you cached before this time you got SC1HOTSPOT.PDF instead.
